Pfotos respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information and family history entrusted to us.

1. Who We Are

Pfotos is a private photo organization and family-history platform designed to help families preserve and organize their history across generations.

2. Information We Collect

Pfotos collects only the information necessary to provide and operate the service.

2.1 Account Information

• Name and email address
• Authentication identifiers
• Account preferences and settings

2.2 User-Uploaded Content

• Photos and images you upload
• File metadata (such as timestamps and device information when available)
• Stories, notes, captions, and documents you provide
• Organizational data (PFarms, PFamilies, PSilos, PHarvest relationships)

2.3 Person & Family Data

You may create records about individuals, including:

• Names, dates, locations, and relationships
• Biographical details, occupations, education, and military service history
• Historical classifications (such as service-related status or events)

Pfotos supports both private records (visible only within your PFarm) and public historical records (shared to a broader community when marked as such). You control whether a record is private or public.

2.4 Biometric & Face Detection Data

• Face detection is used only to assist with photo tagging within your account
• Biometric data is never sold or shared for advertising
• Face data is not used for profiling or external identification
• You may request deletion of biometric data at any time

Additional rights apply to users in Illinois (BIPA), Texas, and Washington.

2.5 Technical & Usage Data

• IP address and approximate location (city/region level)
• Device, browser, and app usage data
• Logs related to performance, reliability, and security

3. How We Use Information

We use your data only to:

• Provide and operate Pfotos
• Organize and display your family history
• Enable collaboration within PFarms
• Secure accounts and prevent unauthorized access
• Detect illegal or harmful content
• Improve reliability and performance
• Display limited, non-personalized advertising (see Section 6)
• Comply with legal obligations

Pfotos does not sell personal data.

4. Private Vault — Our Stewardship Commitment

Your PFarm content is private by default and accessible only to you and people you explicitly invite. Pfotos personnel do not access private content in the normal course of operations.

Limited access may occur only with your explicit request (support), to comply with valid legal obligations, or to investigate reported violations of law. All such access is controlled and logged.

4.1 Encrypted Relationship Data

Certain sensitive relationship metadata may be stored using additional client-side protection measures. This data is designed to reduce unnecessary visibility and limit access beyond your intended use.

5. Public Records & Shared History

Pfotos includes a public historical layer for deceased or publicly contributed individuals. Public records are visible to other users. Private records remain private unless you choose to share them. Living individuals are not made public without appropriate consent. You retain control over what you contribute to the public commons.

6. Advertising

Pfotos may display ads to support free usage tiers.

• Ads are based only on general geographic region
• No behavioral tracking or profiling is used
• No personal data or identifiers are shared with advertisers
• Advertisers do not have access to your photos or family data

7. Data Storage & Upload Behavior

Files you upload are stored securely and associated with your account and PFarm. In some cases, files may be temporarily uploaded before being fully associated with a record. These files are not publicly accessible and are restricted to authenticated access. We may remove unassociated or inactive files over time to maintain system integrity.

8. Content Moderation & Safety

To maintain a safe platform, Pfotos may use automated tools to detect illegal or harmful content, including Google Vision API (SafeSearch) and Microsoft PhotoDNA. These tools analyze content solely for safety purposes and are not used for advertising or profiling.

9. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not share your private content except with service providers required to operate Pfotos, with other PFarm members according to your permissions, when required by law, or with your explicit consent.

10. Government & Legal Requests

We take a strict stance on protecting your data.

• We require valid legal process before disclosing data
• We challenge overbroad or invalid requests
• We notify you when legally permitted
• We do not build backdoors or enable mass surveillance

11. Data Retention

We retain data only as long as necessary to provide the service, maintain security, and comply with legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account at any time.

12. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access your data, correct inaccuracies, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, and request portability. Contact privacy@pfotos.app to exercise these rights.

13. Children's Privacy

Pfotos is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated in-app or via email before taking effect.
